Europe’s cool port city that’s one of the world’s most liveable cities | Travel News | Travel

Fancy moving abroad to work? One of the world’s most liveable cities has been crowned one of the best places to live and work as a British expat.

While a Swiss city took the top spot in the latest ECA ranking, a cool port city in the Netherlands was close behind in the rankings.

Rotterdam is one of the world’s best cities to live in with a low rate of crime, air pollution and lots of leisure options.

Neil Ashman, senior location ratings analyst at ECA, said: “It’s not surprising to see smaller European locations like Rotterdam in the top 10.

“They tend to have excellent facilities and infrastructure, as larger cities do, but they also benefit from lower crime rates and air pollution levels than big cities.”

Rotterdam is the Netherlands’ second-largest city and is home to Europe’s largest port. Britons can take the ferry from Hull or get there by train using the Eurostar from London in under four hours.

It’s one of the most modern cities in the Netherlands, with cool warehouse buildings and award winning architectural design.

Markthal is the city’s top-rated attraction on Tripadvisor. The food and market hall is one of the city’s best places to grab lunch.

A tourist ‘Bob B’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “One of the best food halls in Europe! So much choice and good food to choose from.”

An Internations Expat Insider survey recently found that the Netherlands was the best place in the world to work abroad.

Nearly three quarters of expats were satisfied with their job according to the survey while the work-life balance was described as “awesome”.
